Music Course Format - Carnatic Classical Music

In this class, students will learn vocal music swaras (tunes, pitch), talas (music rhythms) for better music understanding which would help students to execute vocal music well. Every class begins and ends with tuning student’s voice with shruthi (Pitch). Theory classes will be conducted along with classical music, whenever it is necessary to have the proper knowledge of the music


Fundamental study of the Carnatic classical music including knowledge in the basic swaras (tunes, pitch), and the basics of the thala structure (rhythmic systems)


In this level students will learn Carnatic classical music basics:

1. Sarale varase/ Swaravalli
2. Janti varase
3. Hechu/ Upper sthayi
4. Taggu/ Lower sthayi
5. Datu varase
6. Sapta thala alankara

Songs:

Students learn music basics along with:

  • Sanskrit shlokas
  • Meera , Tulsidasa, Jayadeva and other bhajans
  • Purandara dasa, Annamacharya and other great Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi composer’s keerthanams
  • Other good devotional songs in all Indian languages

  • No prior dance experience necessary. Students of all ages can attend the class
  • Students will finish this level at their own speed, age, learning ability, class attendance and with regular practice

Junior Level and advanced levels, continue from this foundation.


Students completing the level 1, continue to increase their knowledge of music, at their own speed.


In this level students will learn:

1. Geethams
2. Sara jathis
3. Varnam and
4. Others great composer’s keerthanams along with bhajans, keerthanams, krithis and songs

  • In this level students learn and understand different raagas of Carnatic classical music from above sections
  • Students will take to finish this level according to their own speed, learning ability, class attendance and with regular practice


1. In this level students will work on more kruthis/ keerathanams in different raaga and different thala with swara.
2. Learning of more varnam in different raagas and thalas and Pancharathna Kruthis

Students will take to finish this level according to their own speed, learning ability, class attendance and with regular practice.


  • In this level students will work on advanced kruthis/ keerathanams in different raaga and different thala with swara
  • Students will gather the knowledge of Raaga Alaapana, Niraval, Kalpanaswaram, Raagam Tanam Pallavi, Thani Avarthanam.
  • Helping students to work on their own kalpana swaras and alapam for different krithis (Keethama’s) and raagas
  • Preparing students for their solo performances/arangettrum

Students will take to finish this level according to their own speed, learning ability, class attendance and with regular practice.


Other details:
  • Teaching music style: Carnatic classical vocal music
  • 1 class per week with 30 min, 45 min, 50 min and 1 hour classes according to student’s learning level
  • Classes are conducted for adults and kids of age 6 years and above
  • In the class, for 75% of the class duration students will learn music basics, techniques and for rest 25% of the duration students will learn classical songs, devotional songs , Purandara Dasa , Thyagaraja , Annamacharya keerthanas and other great composer’s krithis, bhajans and shlokas
  • Acharya Performing Arts Academy is a member of the prestigious International Dance Council CID – UNESCO and is also affiliated with SAMPADA, which is a body of University Silicon Andhra which is an affiliation with Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (PSTU), a NAAC accredited institution.
